The installation of Sybase is indeed tricky. Before I succeeded with it, I have failed 1000 times. The successful one installation was the 1001st trial :)
The most important seems to have all the prerequisites done
before the installation. In the course Sybase Installation and Configuration, there are a couple of lessons describing what I needed
to do, to have later the installation successful. So please check whether you
have all the required packages and whether the user account has been created as
it is required. In my case usually the problem was lack of a required package
in the correct version.
Take a look at this document:
(I hope the link will work for you, if not google for "sap
ase 16 install")
You can find there different "strange" requirements
like very exact library specifications (ie glibc-2.12-1.7.el6.x86_64 and many
more). Sorry to say but you need to validate every one.... This was one of the
hardest parts of the installation to get all the requirements fulfilled. If you
would use exact the same version of Fedora as presented on the course
everything should work, as I'm showing all the dependencies required.
Make also sure that setup has been started with the parameters "-i
console". This forces installer to work in text mode only. The error you
have tells something like "cant connect to x11 server", what is
the GUI on Linux
Wow! Its so nice and knowledgeable content.
